Understanding Data Reliability and Participation Motivation in Sex Research: A Mixed Methods Study of Male Couples’ Self-Reports of Sexual Behavior
Jamie Budnick
My research is about gender and sexuality from a sociological perspective. Over the last decade, I have done work on intimate partner violence, unintended pregnancy, LGBTQ health, sexual identity, and more. I believe deeply that science can change the world, and social science can shape the institutions and structures that we all interact with every day. As a feminist and a new mother to a daughter, my ultimate goal is to conduct cutting-edge research that will improve the lives of women, girls, and sexual minorities around the world to make the future a brighter place for my little girl.
Science builds slowly and in small pieces. I will be using the grant in your name to complete a study about gay male couples’ sexual health data reliability. I will be asking survey questions of each partner in the couple over time, and then comparing their answers and looking for differences. This will help researchers understand how accurate and reliable data are, which will inform public health and HIV researcher, but also contribute to research on survey methodologies.
