Funding Acknowledgements and Publication Compliance

Acknowledging Grant Support in Papers and Presentations

Publications resulting from NIH funding must include an acknowledgment of NIH grant support and a disclaimer. See the relevant section of the NIH Grants Policy Statement for details.

Examples below suggest how to acknowledge support from the PSC/P2C Center Grant, and PSC Training Grants.

PSC, P2C Center Grant

PSC receives funding for infrastructure services and facilities through the NICHD P2C PRIP program. Publications produced in your role as PSC researcher should cite the NICHD center grant, P2CHD041028, in most cases.

Example 1: This research was supported in part by an NICHD center grant to the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan (P2CHD041028).

Example 2: The authors gratefully acknowledge use of the services and facilities of the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan, funded by NICHD Center Grant P2CHD041028.

NIA & NICHD Training Grants

PSC receives training funding through the National Institute on Aging (NIA) for the Training in the Demography and Economics of Aging program (T32AG000221) and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development for the Social Science Training in Populations Studies program (T32HD007339). If you were supported as a pre- or post-doc during any part of your research, you should cite the appropriate training grant. Examples include:

NIA Example: This research was supported in part by an NIA training grant to the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan (T32AG000221).

NICHD Example: This research was supported in part by an NICHD training grant to the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan (T32HD007339)

If you are uncertain of whether to cite the training grant, please contact the Training Program Administrator to discuss your specific situation.

Depositing Publications in PubMed Central

In addition to acknowledging the grant in your publication, NIH Public Access Policy requires all peer reviewed journal articles supported by federal funding to be deposited to the digital archive PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication. The process is described here:

Once a paper is submitted and processed, a PMCID number is assigned (PMCID number is a measurement of compliance). NIH provides an overview of the Public Access Policy and process here: https://publicaccess.nih.gov/

Timeliness of PMCID number assignment is also a critical measurement of compliance. The PMCID number must be assigned within 3 months of publication.

We are happy to assist PSC trainees and training program alumni with the depositing process. Please contact [email protected]!
