Reducing Imperfect Information Among Jobseekers in the Philippines

Emily Beam

Emily Beam

High job-search costs and limited screening opportunities are characteristic of many labor markets, particularly in developing countries. I conduct a randomized controlled trial in the rural Philippines to assess the impact of increasing information about wages and job qualifications, as well as the impact of reducing search costs, on job-search effort and employment outcomes in the context of international migration. This methodology allows causal measurement of the effect of reducing imperfect information and the effect of lowering job search costs on job-search effort and employment outcomes.
