Recipients of PSC Small Grant Awards

This project is designed to examine three dimensions of intergenerational links in the United States using the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). In all cases, we use the genealogical survey design of the PSID to link parents and adult children, using economic characteristics and geographic location of both generations. In one topic, we investigate the relationship between children’s education, gender and proximity and aging parents’ health and mortality. In another topic, we investigate the impact of parents’ resources and proximity on young workers’ labor market outcomes. In one specific area of interest, we investigate parents’ effects on young displaced workers, but we also study more generally the effect of parental occupation, education and proximity on young workers’ wages, employment status and occupation.
