Parental and contextual influences on child health in Chitwan, Nepal

This project builds off of ongoing work in Nepal that investigates the effects of labor migration on children’s health and well-being. Although the effects of parental migration on the health and well-being of children left behind are receiving increasing scholarly attention, little is known about how children’s health and well-being changes over time after their parents migrate. In this project, I will collect a second round of child health and nutrition data in a migrant-sending area as a part of a large panel study with rich individual, household, and community measures, the Chitwan Valley Family Study (CVFS). This new data will allow me to analyze how individual, family, and community characteristics, including parental migration, are related to changes in children’s health over time, enriching our understanding of the complex links between migration and child health.
