Infertility and family formation: Perspectives from India
Holly Donahue Singh
I will examine changing ideas about kinship and reproduction in India by conducting ethnographic field research on two approaches to dealing with infertility: 1. seeking intervention to produce a child, whether through biomedical treatment or treatment through another medical or spiritual mode of healing and 2. Seeking to adopt or otherwise become the long-term guardian of a child. This research project builds on work I previously conducted in India in relation to my doctoral dissertation between 2005 and 2007.
The Marshall Weinberg International Travel Fund also provided funding.
