Effects of Local Labor Market Conditions at Birth on Later Life Health and Health Behaviors
Nicardo McInnis
My research aims to develop a more detailed understanding of the intended and unintended consequences of income and social safety net programs such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. I come from a developing country with widespread poverty and limited opportunities for upward mobility. Growing up in this environment and seeing first-hand how the lack of resources restrict access to certain basic amenities such as decent healthcare services and the lasting impacts this can have, has piqued my interest to deepen our understanding of the impact of socioeconomic status on health and economic outcomes in the short- and long-run and how safety net programs can be used to reduce some of the associated disparities. I hope that my research will help policy makers to accomplish the goal of reducing the effects of income disparities ad improving the wellbeing of especially disadvantaged populations.
