This Developmental Idealism Workshop was held in Ann Arbor in 2010 and 2011.

Our research team has devoted the past several years to the creation and testing of questionnaires and protocols for measuring ideas about development and related matters. We have also been successful in collecting data concerning developmental idealism in 14 countries: Albania; Argentina; Bulgaria; China; Egypt; Iran; Iraq; Lebanon; Malawi; Nepal: Saudi Arabia; Taiwan; United States; and Vietnam. We have plans to collect developmental idealism data in additional countries and are preparing proposals for data collections in other countries. We have written papers and books about developmental idealism and its relationship to fertility, family, and inequality. This three-day Developmental Idealism Workshop will accomplish several goals. First, it will bring together many members of our national and international developmental idealism research team to share ideas and experience concerning developmental idealism research. Second, members of the research team will make public presentations of papers and other work in progress and will receive feedback on that research. Third, we will discuss the preparation of additional papers and a book manuscript. Fourth, we will discuss research proposals currently being prepared and explore ideas for additional proposals. Fifth, the Workshop will include a data users’ workshop that will acquaint those attending with the wide range of data that we now have available and provide them with guidance on how to use it.
