A Mixed-Method Study of Breast Cancer Screening and Diagnosis among Middle Eastern and South Asian Women in the U.S.

This research aimed to help immigrant women from the Middle East and South Asia become more aware of their breast cancer risk, need for screening, and also understand barriers that they may face to obtaining screening. Khan also investigated social factors that may place immigrant women from these communities at such high risk of breast cancer incidence. The goal through this work is highlight the issue of breast cancer in Middle Eastern and South Asian communities within public health research and practice and think of ways that breast cancer risk, management, and treatment can be addressed in ways that are sensitive to the norms and values of these immigrant communities.
