About:

Maren Miriam Spolum, M.P.H, M.P.P., is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity and is a trainee of the University of Michigan Population Studies Center. She completed her MPH in the program in 2012 and holds an MPP from the University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy (2012). Her BA in History, Philosophy & the Social Studies of Science & Medicine was completed at the University of Chicago in 2006.

Maren’s research focuses on political economy of health, racialized neoliberalism, structural racism, police violence & abolition, and health inequities.

Maren is a Pre-Doctoral Trainee, National Institute of Child Health and Development (2019-ongoing); served as HBHE PhD Student Organization (HBHEDoc) Co-Chair 2020-2023, and is a member of the Graduate Employees’ Organization (GEO).
