U-M Poverty Solutions funds nine projects

January 17, 2017

Through grants from Poverty Solutions, an initiative launched by the University of Michigan to prevent and alleviate poverty, researchers will begin testing models to ease the effects of poverty. Director Luke Shaefer says these funded projects “aim to make a real difference in the lives of struggling families by building knowledge about how to address poverty in a meaningful way… [and by] putting knowledge into practice.” Poverty Solutions is co-sponsored by the Detroit Urban Research Center; the Detroit Health Department; Henry Ford Health System; and nine community-based organizations. “This first round of support leverages the academic breadth of the University of Michigan paired with strong community partnerships to make a major difference,” says U-M President Mark Schlissel.
