Two new UM-Harvard partnerships address poverty and drug use in Detroit

September 12, 2018

ISR’s Luke Shaefer, director of UM’s Poverty Solutions initiative, will work with colleagues at Harvard on two projects designed to increase economic mobility and curb the opioid crisis in Detroit. Both projects bring together community members, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to identify context-attuned solutions-based interventions. The Equality of Opportunity Project analyzes big data to identify pathways out of poverty. The collaboration on the opioid epidemic will hold two major policy summits to identify best practices and solutions regarding prescribing, prescription drug monitoring, drug overdose detection, access to treatment and criminal justice.
