Stidham-Hall says depression, stress decrease proper use of birth control

In her analysis of weekly data on the sexual behavior of non-pregnant women 18-19 years old, Kelli Stidham-Hall found that women with moderate to severe depression and stress symptoms were less likely to use contraception consistently than their counterparts. Family planning providers should consider mental health symptoms when they counsel their patients, Hall said.
