Starr says gender plays key role in length of prison sentences in federal cases

Sonja Starr’s research on prison terms for men and women is cited in this piece on bias in arrests and incarceration – and the resultant disproportionate conviction rate of black men. Starr finds that men are more likely to face incarceration and, if convicted, given significantly longer sentences than women accused of the same crimes in federal court.
