In her study of the ways seniors interpret their own aging, Jacqui Smith found that “subtle experiences of discrimination in interactions with strangers and sometimes with your own kids or partner” can have a big impact. She says this kind of feedback is linked to more negative views on aging, which in turn are linked to delayed health care. Smith’s work, which used HRS data, appears in the August 2017 issue of *The Gerontologist,* which is devoted to examining the impact on well-being of attitudes and stereotypes about aging.
