A team of researchers has collected and analyzed data on natural disasters in US counties over the past 90 years. Their objective was to study how disasters impact residential migration into or out of disaster-prone areas. In their analyses, they found that migratory trends may worsen inequality in the U.S., as the rich move away from disaster-prone areas, while the poor are left behind.
