Renne says polio eradication in Nigeria complicated by government-insurgent violence

The Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria has threatened polio eradication efforts there. But Elisha Renne says the Nigerian government’s own rights abuses have complicated the efforts of some health workers who are allied with government security forces. She says: “People are afraid of the government; they are afraid of the police. Polio workers [in northeast Nigeria] are seen as part of the government now.”
