Recommendations on how to reduce discrimination resulting from ban-the-box policies cite Starr’s work

A new report by the Urban Institute looks at ways to reduce hiring discrimination in areas where ban-the-box (BTB) policies prevent employers from asking about criminal history. BTB policies are intended to give ex-felons a chance to prove themselves in job interviews. However, work by PSC researcher Sonja Starr and colleague Amanda Agan – cited in the report – found that that BTB policies further statistical discrimination in job callbacks on the basis of race.
