PRB’s interactive map by gender and state of death rates for Americans age 55+

January 12, 2018

Using data from the University of Maryland’s Andrew Fenelon and input from the University of Michigan’s Vicki Freedman and Amanda Sonnega, the Population Reference Bureau created an interactive visualization tool for age-standardized death rates in each US state for residents age 55 and above, by gender. A graph below the map allows comparison to all other states of the selected group. NIA’s John Haaga says: “State-level death rates at older ages give us a good, but not perfect, indicator of what’s happening to population health.”
