Novak and colleagues on targeting Latinos for eugenics sterilization in California, 1920-1945

In the first half of the 20th century, approximately 60,000 people were sterilized under US eugenics programs. Nicole Novak and Natalie Lira discuss their research team’s analysis of more than 17,000 forms recommending sterilization of people institutionalized in California from 1920 to 1945. They found a disproportionate risk of sterilization for those with Spanish surnames.
