Commenting on findings from a study in Iceland that looked at how being overweight affects employment rates for men and women, Edward Norton said he wasn’t surprised to see effects for women, but not men. In his recent study, he found that, while overweight women were paid less than their slimmer counterparts, overweight men did not suffer the same fate: “If anything, larger men were paid more.” Norton said these two studies support the notion that “there is something in Western society that seems to penalize women for being overweight.”
