National Study of Caregiving (NSOC) Extended
Researchers Vicki Freedman of the Institute for Social Research and Jennifer Wolff of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health have received a grant to extend the National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). Funded by the National Institute on Aging, NSOC IV will interview family caregivers of participants in the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS) annually from 2020-2023. Together, NHATS and NSOC are the only national data on caregiving to a well characterized population of older adults that offer perspectives from both caregiver and recipient. Using NSOC, Freedman and Wolff plan to study recent and longer-term trends in family care experiences, highlighting contrasts between caregivers who help older adults with dementia and other types of caregivers.
