Murphy on extending health support via a smart phone and JITAI

Susan Murphy describes how just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAI) can offer health supportive phone messages to help keep people on track behaviorally, especially after rehabilitation. In combination with a fitness monitor that measures inactivity or stress, for example, JITAI can help people manage exercise, anxiety, diet, or smoking in a tailored, adaptive way. The on-time nature of the intervention is also key, Murphy says: “The idea is that you can extend support to a person into their real life – so at 2 a.m. in a stairwell, for example.”
