Murphy et al find best treatment sequence for children with ADHD is behavioral therapy before medication

Approximately 4 million children are currently diagnosed with ADHD in the US, and many are prescribed stimulants to treat their condition. William Pelham, Susan Murphy, and colleagues evaluated the impact of altering drugs with behavioral therapy in different sequences. They found that drugs were most effective as a supplemental, second-line treatment for those who needed it — and often at lower doses than normally prescribed.
