In new research published in *Social Science & Medicine,* Andrea Knittel, Rachel Snow, Rick Rioloc, Derek Griffith, and Jeffrey Morenoff use an agent-based model to simulate patterns of sexual behavior at the community level by rates of incarceration. They also consider the implications of their findings for HIV and STD risk. Their results suggest that reducing incarceration and creating a more open criminal justice system that supports the maintenance of inmates’ relationships may have important sexual health and public health implications.
