Miech says declines in teen vaping likely tied to social rather than health concerns

December 14, 2016

A new report from ISR’s Monitoring the Future indicates a continuing decline for 2016 in the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs by U.S. teens. In particular, use of e-cigarettes was down in all three grades sampled – 8th, 10th, and 12th – which Richard Miech says signals the change “isn’t just a blip.” The reason for this decline is not clear, but Miech says if vaping does continue to decline, “it would probably be because it’s considered uncool” rather than unhealthy.
