Mahmoudi finds hearing aids may help seniors with hearing loss avoid, shorten hospital stays

Using Medicare data for seniors with hearing loss, Elham Mahmoudi and colleagues found that those reporting use of hearing aids (HAs) had fewer ED visits and hospitalizations, and shorter hospital stays. It should be noted that although use of HAs reduced total Medicare costs, it significantly increased total and out-of-pocket health care spending.
