Bridget Lavelle and Pamela Smock’s recent study found that about 115,000 U.S. women a year lose their health insurance as a result of divorce, and that roughly 65,000 of these women ultimately become uninsured. Insurance loss may compound the economic losses women experience after divorce and contribute to as well as compound previously documented health declines following divorce.
