Langa says more education and better disease treatments may have led to lower dementia rates among older Americans

In this interview, Kenneth Langa talks about his findings that dementia declined, from 11.6% to 8.8%, among adults over 65 between 2000 and 2012 – a change he calls “relatively large.” Langa says higher educational attainment and better treatment of heart disease in this cohort may be factors, but he says more research is needed to figure out the “active ingredient” that protects against dementia.
