Although later life memory problems are not treatable, identifying their risk factors could help prevent them. Connecting the causes of stroke to memory loss may be instructive, says Kenneth Langa. “Pinning down this relationship between hypertension, diabetes, physical inactivity and the effects on the brain” could help people learn to protect their mental capacities for longer.
