Langa says dementia risk tied to cardiovascular system and education level

January 03, 2017

Finding that the prevalence of dementia decreased among U.S. adults between 2000 and 2012, Kenneth Langa attributes this decline to improvements in treatments that keep the cardiovascular system healthy and increases in educational levels. Langa says his findings suggest “that a 75-year-old today has a lower risk of having dementia than a 75-year-old 10 or 20 years ago.” However, he also says more work needs to be done to keep dementia trends declining.
