Lam says improving U.S. economy may spur higher fertility, but if not, we shouldn’t worry

The U.S. birth rate hit an all-time low in 2013, dipping to about 1.9 births per woman. Should we be worried? David Lam says he doesn’t see this as “an economic disaster” — after all, Germany is thriving with lower fertility than the U.S. — and besides, an increase in immigration would tend to offset low fertility rates among U.S.-born women.
