Kruger says high concentration of local fast food outlets is risk factor for obesity

As it happens the states with the highest concentrations of McDonald’s restaurants (# locations per 100k residents) have the highest rates of obesity and heart disease deaths. Although not demonstrating a direct causal link, Daniel Kruger also finds that communities with high local concentrations of fast food restaurants have higher rates of obesity. He sees a high prevalence of fast food as indicative on a poor landscape in which multiple factors can lead to health problems.
