Miles Kimball and Yichuan Wang analyzed data used by Carmen Reinhart and Ken Rogoff to support their position that high debt slows national growth. Kimball says the data yielded “no evidence for a negative effect of national debt on economic growth” after controlling for the predictive power of past growth for future growth.
