John Knodel honored by Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University

The University Council of Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok awarded John Knodel an honorary doctorate degree on October 8, 2015. Presented by Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the degree recognizes Knodel’s contributions both to the field of historical demography and the demography of developing countries, particularly Thailand and neighboring Southeast Asian countries. He is cited for his pioneering efforts to combine qualitative and quantitative methods, altering how demographic research is now carried out. The award also recognizes Knodel’s 40-plus year history of collaborative research with colleagues at the Chulalongkorn University College of Population Studies and other population organizations in the region that have contributed to the development of demography and substantial capacity building in these areas.
