HRS genomics data available for analysis

March 10, 2016

Some data from the NIH-funded project to genotype DNA samples from about 20,000 participants in the Health and Retirement Study (2006-2012) are now available for analysis – with the remainder anticipated to be available by mid-2016. Included in this HRS sample is genotype information from more than 6,000 participants from racial and ethnic minorities, including over 3,000 African Americans. In addition, data are available on a variety of demographic, health, economic, and family measures. Jonathan King, Program Director of NIA’s Division of Behavioral and Social Research, says these data give us “the best picture we have of the genetic diversity of older adults in the U.S.”
