Lisa Neidert and Ron Lesthaeghe find that the American “Culture War,” which influenced voting patterns, is also demonstrated in key family demographic attributes. So for example, Democrats represent a greater percentage of white, non-Hispanic women between the ages of 25 to 34 who have never married; more abortions per 1,000 live births; and a larger percentage of households with same or different sex cohabitants. Trump has capitalized on this schism, reminding his supporters that, regardless of his policy decisions, he opposes Americans that typically embody Democratic voter demographics.
