House says resolving socioeconomic inequalities, not spending more on health care, will improve health in America

Despite long and expensive efforts to improve healthcare access and affordability, Americans have worse health than other wealthy nations. And U.S. health spending has grown to almost 20% of GDP – far more than any other nation spends. James House says that to improve population health, America must go beyond expanding access to insurance and health care: “The greatest opportunity for making Americans healthier lies in improving access to education, income and better occupational and residential conditions.”
