H. Luke Shaefer honored with UM Faculty Recognition Award

H. Luke Shaefer, director of Poverty Solutions, and PSC Faculty Associate has been honored with UM Faculty Recognition Award – intended for mid-career faculty who have demonstrated remarkable contributions to the university through achievements in scholarly research or creative endeavors; excellence as a teacher, adviser and mentor; and distinguished participation in service activities of the university and elsewhere. Eligible candidates include full professors with no more than four years in rank, and tenured associate professors. Five awards of $2,000 each are made. Dr. Shaefer’s research explores rising levels of extreme poverty in the US, the impact of SNAP on material hardships, barriers to unemployment insurance faced by vulnerable workers, and strategies for increasing access to oral health care in the United States.
