H. Luke Shaefer and colleagues argue for a universal child allowance

This piece describes a simple approach to reducing child poverty – already in place in almost every EU countries, Canada, and Austrailia: federal allotments paid to low and middle-income families to help them raise their children. In a paper being presented at an anti-poverty conference and, later, in the *Russell Sage Foundation Journal of Social Sciences*, Luke Shaefer and 8 other researchers outline their proposal for a universal monthly child allowance in the U.S., with three potential models this could follow.
