Giordani and colleagues explore using portable MCI diagnostics among older African Americans

Black Americans are twice as likely as whites to develop mild cognitive impairment (MCI), an early predictor of Alzheimer’s disease. MCI is a subtle condition among the aging, and current diagnosis requires a brain scan in a hospital setting. Bruno Giordani and colleagues at Wayne State University are exploring the use of a portable method – an EEG combined with computer-based cognitive tests – to diagnose MCI among older blacks in their homes.
