Geronimus’s work noted in discussion of “persistent racialized stigmatization” of black faculty

In this opinion piece, the author (Ebony McGee) discusses her recent study exploring the experiences of 33 black faculty members around presenting their research in educational contexts – including national conferences, symposia, and campus job talks. When discussing the impact of ‘”persistent racialized stigmatization” of blacks in academia, she cites the work of Arline Geronimus on weathering among African Americans – or “the long-term physical, mental, emotional and psychological effects of racism and of living in a society characterized by white dominance and privilege.”
