Geronimus and Bound find high death rates persist for black Americans in 2000

Citing findings from her recent study with John Bound and Cynthia Colen (*American Journal of Public Health*, forthcoming), Arline Geronimus says that despite improved economic conditions, working-age residents of urban poverty areas still suffer severe excess mortality. The failure to reduce the toll of chronic illness is of particular concern, said Geronimus.
