The Social Science Data Analysis Network, SSDAN, led by Dr. Bill Frey and hosted at PSC, received the 2020 MERLOT Sociology Classics Award from The Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching – MERLOT. This program recognizes and promotes outstanding peer reviewed online resources designed to enhance teaching and learning. The award is granted to honor the authors and developers of these resources for their contributions to the academic community. Every year each of the MERLOT Editorial Boards may select an outstanding resource from its discipline to receive the MERLOT Classics Award. MERLOT considers this learning material an exemplary online learning resource and it is now recognized as so on the MERLOT website listing. The MERLOT Sociology Board had this to say about the material:”The Social Science Data Analysis Network (SSDAN), based at the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan, creates demographic media that make U.S. census data accessible to policymakers, educators, the media, and informed citizens. Engaging students in their own analysis of the data can be a very powerful teaching tool. It can be very satisfying for students to answer their own questions. Once introduced to the workings of SSDAN, many students will continue to explore further. Very good coverage and everything you need right at your fingertips!”
