A relatively recent influx of immigrants from the Caribbean, sub-Saharan Africa, and South and Central America are reshaping the black population in the U.S. These foreign-born blacks are older, more educated, more likely to be married, and have higher incomes than U.S.-born blacks. Given these and other differences, Bill Frey says black immigrants have unique social needs and “shouldn’t be confused with native-born blacks… who have their own needs to be addressed.”
