Frey questions whether urban sanctuary status will cover unauthorized immigrants in suburbs

A new Pew report says 61% of undocumented US immigrants (and 65% of lawful immigrants) are concentrated in 20 major US metro areas. Some of these metropolises have identified as ‘sanctuary cities’ that have pledged not to help federal officials identify undocumented immigrants. But William Frey says that most metro-area immigrants actually live outside of city limits, which “may raise questions of whether or not the sanctuary status is an umbrella one that covers the whole region.”
