Frey comments on continuing decline in American birthrate

The 3.8 million American babies born last year comprised the lowest number in three decades. A slide in birthrates that began during the 2008 recession continues, despite improvements in the US economy, and despite demographers’ expectations to the contrary. William Frey says he still believes that birthrates will ultimately respond: “Every year I say when the economy is getting better then we’ll start having more children, and I’m still expecting that to happen.”
