Frey and others weigh in on 2016 decline in US birth rate, driven by fewer teen births

To those worried about a “baby crisis” in the US, William Frey says that our birth rate remains higher than other developed countries in Europe, we still have more births than deaths, and we still have a growing labor force. “Every year I say when the economy is getting better then we’ll start having more children,” he said, “and I’m still expecting that to happen.” Also, the decline for 2016 is driven by a drop in birth rates for teens and 20-somethings. Rates for women in their 30s and 40s increased.
