Freedman et al. find 69% of older adults need some type of assistance with daily activities

Analyzing data on more than 8,000 Americans over age 65, Vicki Freedman and colleagues found that 31% were able to care for themselves without assistance, while the rest used assistive devices or relied on help from people. Freedman says that getting the right assistance is an important factor in seniors’ independence: “If you’re having difficulties with daily activities, there may be ways to address those issues that can help you participate in the things you enjoy and help improve your quality of life.”
