Eisenberg discusses U-M program offering mental health services to student athletes
The mental health of college athletes has come under increasing scrutiny. Daniel Eisenberg is PI of an NCAA-funded program, Athletes Connected, that provides mental health information and education to student athletes and directs them to available resources. It’s especially important to destigmatize mental health support for athletes since they may “worry that if they reveal what people think of as a weakness, that might hurt their changes for playing,” says Eisenberg. Athletes Connected has been a successful program at Michigan, and plans are afoot to refine it and expand it nationally.
